What’s my story you ask?

Soon after I moved to Austin 9 years ago, I found I was miserable, bloated and foggy headed, no energy, and I just felt crappy all the time. I thought that I was just stressed out and unhappy. I met my Tobin, and one weekend he and I ate pizza, pasta, and I ate crab cakes at work Monday.

That Monday night I felt horrible with abdominal cramps and nausea; I felt bloated and had a headache. I couldn’t do anything. The next day Tobin suggested that I take gluten out of my diet for a couple of weeks because he had a friend that couldn’t eat gluten. I didn’t know what it was, but said I would try it.

After 2 weeks I tried a cinnamon roll and I was sick in 30 minutes. I knew then gluten had something to do with why I was sick and feeling bad all the time. I took out gluten but I still wasn’t getting completely better. I still had no energy and got sick sometimes.

I decided to go to a friend’s functional doctor. He helped me discover that I was allergic to milk and corn, had Hashimoto’s syndrome, and that I was celiac. He gave me vitamins but that was it so I remained sick. I asked him to give me a food allergy test and he said that I didn’t need one. I found another functional doctor and they ran a food allergy test that was confusing and had no consistent results; she gave me more vitamins. I started feeling better for a short time and then fell backward to feeling miserable again.

I took matters into my own hands. I did hours and hours of research for weeks upon a time. I finally found my current functional doctor and he seemed like a specialist on gluten. Between my research and my new doctor I was finally able to get on the right track and take all my food sensitivities completely out of my diet, off my skin, heal my damaged gut, and take out toxins and chemicals. Only then did I start to feel better. It took me 5 years to get healthy from my own research and the right doctor.
